Student Transportation Handbook

The privilege of pupils to ride the school bus is conditional on their good behavior and observance of the following rules and regulations. Any pupil who fails to comply with any of these rules may be denied transportation services and shall be subject to disciplinary action.  The cooperation of the parents and the student is needed to maintain proper conduct at the bus stop and on the buses. The parent or guardian, for reference during the school year, should keep these regulations.

Note: A student’s privilege to ride the bus may be suspended immediately in the case of a serious offense.

Note: If your student needs to ride the bus to a different location than there designated bus stop, they will need a note with a contact number taken to the office the morning of the change and signed by the office before the student will be able to get off at different location.

Note: Because of over-crowding additional students coming home with your child will need a note from their parents a day before, so the transportation will be able to honor the request. The note must be taken to the office and signed by the principal. The principal will give the student a bus pass to ride the bus.

Note: A note must be sent or a phone call (call before 2:00 PM.) if you want your child to be picked up after school. Otherwise, he/she will be put on their usual bus.

Bus Discipline
The school bus is an extension of the classroom, and discipline will be administered by the principal, with the assistance of the bus driver.

All school board policies that apply to student conduct and other student related activities apply to the school bus.

These are the rules that are posted on each bus:

  1. Observe the same conduct as in the classroom.
  2. Be courteous and use no profane language.
  3. Do not eat or drink on the bus.
  4. Keep bus clean.
  5. Cooperate with driver at all times.
  6. Do not use tobacco products on bus.
  7. Do not be destructive.
  8. Stay in seat.
  9. Keep head, hands, and feet inside bus.
  10. The driver is authorized to assign seats.

Along with these rules we need to keep in mind that if your student is to bring a large object to or from the school you will be required to find transportation for that object, (large musical instrument, etc.).

Always have the student at the bus stop 5 minutes before scheduled bus time. The bus does not have the ability to wait on student with the red lights flashing. Talk to your student about proper seating on the bus. They should never be turned around facing the back of bus or legs or feet out in the isle. Simple courtesy to the driver will go a long way toward a safe and enjoyable ride. Keep all pets away from bus stop. Remind student that there is a danger zone around the bus that needs to be observed.

The student needs to wait 15 feet from roadside until driver motions for student to cross traffic.  Student needs to obey driver at all times for their safety.

If you have any questions concerning the transportation of your student please call the transportation office and speak with the director at (903)- 473-2222, ext. 4143 or 4151 between the hours of 8 A.M. and 2:30 PM.
