At last night’s board meeting, the Rains ISD Board of Trustees voted to make masks optional for students and staff both inside and outside district facilities. Please know that our leadership team and the School Board gave careful thought to various data, vaccination availability, and the feedback of the community and staff.
As of April 13, 2021, face coverings are optional for students, staff and visitors in district facilities, school buses, and school events. We encourage our students, families, and staff to take whatever precautions they are comfortable with at this time. Please note, if the number of cases in Rains ISD increases past a certain threshold (multiple confirmed cases), face coverings may be required on a certain campus or a specific grade level until the number of cases falls below that threshold.
We will still be contact tracing for close contact when we have a positive Covid case. We will continue to follow the protocols that our nurse and nurse aides have been following throughout the year.
Covid notifications will continue to be updated on our Covid Tracker located on the Rains ISD web page. This is updated daily by 4:00.
I know that these changes are a celebration for some while causing great concern for others. I will, in conjunction with the RISD leadership team and Board of Trustees, continue to monitor the situation and make changes as necessary to ensure a safe environment for the students and staff of Rains ISD.
Superintendent, Rains ISD
