Rains ISD COVID-19 Case Dashboard

In an effort to keep our parents, staff, and community informed, the dashboard below will be updated by 4:00PM daily to reflect active cases in Rains ISD. In accordance with TEA guidelines, this dashboard serves as a written notification of active COVID-19 cases within our district for our school community and community at large.

Due to privacy laws, we will not share the names or any identifying details of students or staff members who test positive for COVID-19. These numbers are updated daily by 4:00PM. Current active cases for Rains ISD:

Current COVID Notification Policies

 

If your child is considered to have had close contact with any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19, you will receive further notification. If you do not receive individual notification, your child was not found to be directly exposed and can return to campus the following school day. 

Per current guidelines and protocols, individuals who have symptoms that could be COVID-19, have had close contact with someone who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19, or who have tested positive for COVID-19 will be off-campus for a minimum of 10-14 days. 

  • In the case of an individual who was diagnosed with COVID-19, the individual may return to school when all three of the following criteria are met:

    • at least 24 hours have passed since recovery (resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications);

    • the individual has improvement in symptoms;

    • at least ten days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

  • In the case of an individual who has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and who is not evaluated by a medical professional or tested for COVID-19, such individual is assumed to have COVID-19 and may not return to campus until the individual has completed the same three-step set of criteria listed above.

    • If the individual has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and wants to return to school before completing the above stay at home period, the individual must either

      • a) obtain a medical professional’s note clearing the individual for return based on an alternative diagnosis or

      • b) obtain an acute infection test (at a physician’s office or approved testing location) that is negative for COVID-19. 

  • In the case of an individual who is determined to have had close contact with someone who is lab-confirmed positive for COVID-19, such individual should remain home until the 14-day incubation period has passed.

    • The definition of close contact is evolving with our understanding of COVID-19, and individual scenarios should be determined by an appropriate public health agency. In general, close contact is defined as:

      • a. being directly exposed to infectious secretions (e.g., being coughed on); or

      • b. being within 6 feet for a largely uninterrupted or sustained extended contact period throughout the course of a day of approximately 15 minutes; however, additional factors like case/contact masking (i.e., both the infectious individual and the potential close contact have been consistently and properly masked), ventilation, presence of dividers, and case symptomology may affect this determination.

    • Either (a) or (b) defines close contact if it occurred during the infectious period of the case, defined as two days prior to symptom onset to 10 days after symptom onset. In the case of asymptomatic individuals who are test-confirmed with COVID-19, the infectious period is defined as two days prior to the confirming lab test and continuing for 10 days following the confirming lab test.

To help us reduce the spread of illness in our school community, please keep the following things in mind:

  • If your child develops a fever or other flu-like symptoms, please see a medical professional immediately and do not bring your child to school.

  • As a reminder, we are requiring all students fourth (4th) grade and older to wear face coverings. At this time, masks are not required for Rains Elementary School but are encouraged. All employees are required to wear face coverings.

Current Positive Cases

Individuals who receive a lab-positive COVID-19 test result

 

Close Contact Notification

In addition to the active case information provided on the dashboard, following established guidelines and our communications protocols, we will notify any individuals within 24 hours who may have come in close contact (as defined by TEA) with a lab-confirmed positive case on campus. If you are not directly contacted, then you were not someone who was identified as having close contact. Those who were identified as being in close contact will be given direction on the process for returning to the building.

 

Response to a Positive Case

If a student begins displaying symptoms during the day, they must immediately be separated until they can be picked up by their parent or guardian; staff members will be asked to leave the building immediately. The areas used by that individual will be closed off, cleaned, and disinfected before the next day. 

 

Cleaning Response

The district has a trained response team and protocols in place to deploy as needed for large-scale cleaning. In addition, TEA has allowed for up to a five-day closure, if needed, to deep clean the entire campus.
